Dr. White's Bio

Dr. Sarah White-Springer is an Associate Professor of Equine Physiology at Texas A&M University. Upon culmination of her PhD program at the University of Florida, Dr. White-Springer completed postdoctoral training at the University of Kentucky studying muscle disease in humans and murine models. Dr. White-Springer now aims to develop and utilize novel technologies to enhance performance and wellbeing in equine athletes through dietary and managerial modulation of skeletal muscle mitochondrial and inflammatory profiles. Relationships developed with the Thoroughbred industry have afforded Dr. White-Springer the opportunity to work with elite racehorses, including a 2022 Kentucky Derby contender! She also serves as the mitochondria expert in collaborative efforts in cattle and swine production and in ovine and murine models of human disease. Dr. White-Springer has been instrumental in obtaining over $3 million in funding to support her research program and has published 30 journal articles and 62 scientific abstracts. She has mentored 9 M.S. and 2 Ph.D. students as chair of committee and has served as the primary instructor for 8 courses. In the last 2 years, Dr. White-Springer received the American Society of Animal Science Equine Science Award, the Equine Science Society Josie Coverdale Award for Outstanding Young Professional, the Texas A&M William A. Dugas Early Career Award for Research Excellence, was a USDA Young and Emerging Invited Speaker at the 12 th International Symposium on Selenium in Biology and Medicine in Honolulu, HI, and had a publication cited as a Key Publication in Equine Exercise Physiology 2018-2022 at the 2022 International Conference on Equine Exercise Physiology in Uppsala, Sweden. Dr. White-Springer is also an accomplished horsewoman, most recently earning multiple titles at the 2022 Arabian Sport Horse Nationals with her 4-year-old, Marti.
